Large Balinese Batik Print by Suhirdiman 1976. Period Indonesian, dated 1976 Artist Suhirdiman Medium Batik print Frame 95 x 84 cm / 37 1/2 x 33 in Signed Signed and dated by the artist Frame Set behind glass in original moulded wooden frame Condition Good condition commensurate with age. Few age spots and little wear to frame. Ready to hang Originally retailed by The Rowley Gallery, Kensington Batik is a traditional Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the cloth. The technique originated from the island of Java, Indonesia. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap.
