Antique Marble & Scagliola Pedestal Late 19th century, Italian Impressive Black Scagliola Marble Pedestal Stand. Black variegated marble tops sit above matching scagliola column upon ebonized plinth. The simulated marble column body of a particularly striking style. Scagliola being a decorative Italian technique where a composite stucco body is created and coloured using bonded plaster. This can be shaped and polished to simulate expensive marble. A highly effective and decorative substitute for the weight of solid marble. Measures 43 x 43 x 111 (height) cm. Diameter of top is 32 cm Good condition commensurate with age. Heavy. Two sections of repair to the base, not hugely noticeable. Original condition as removed from a Wiltshire manor house
