Originally from the Bristol-based Street Graff scene and sharing space with banksy, sickboy and Nick Walker, artist Cyclops’s work creates a tribal fury combined with photo-realistic imagery creating an impressive style of his own.

Lucas Price aka Cyclops, along with his painting partner sweet toof, was one of the uk’s most prolific street artists. If you have walked down any street in east London in the last few years, the chances are you would noticed one of the pairs street paintings.

He founded London's Burning Candy crew and his work appeared at Tate Modern in 2008. An appearance in Exit Through the Gift Shop, at Banksy's request, ended in an arrest that can be seen in the Oscar-nominated documentary.

Frequent collaborators include Sweet Toof, Tek 33, and Rowdy. Their work, the most well known of which is his skull character with caricature teeth often seen in East London.

ABOUT the ART and the ARTIST

The 2008 Screen print ‘Mentasum’ is a multi-layered art piece which creates a photorealistic concept that examines the connections between objects language and nature. Cyclops’s work combines images and photomargo to investigate how body language and visuals act as an essential means of expression.

Cyclops first tried his hand at street graffiti at 13, and later went on to study at the Tony Romanoff School of wood craftsmen.

Now a Contemporary artist, Lucas Price formerly known as Cyclops, blends the traditional and the modern, merging contemporary photo realism with antiquated styles and religious iconography.

Price completed a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art, London. In 2008, he exhibited at the Tate Modern as part of their exhibition ‘Art on the Street’ and, in 2015, appeared in Bonhams’ contemporary auction. As well as working as a fine artist, Lucas Price founded the postmodernist menswear label ‘A.Four Labs’, with Tokyo-based designer Kazuki Kuraishi.

Using multi-textured bases and collages, featuring cropped head portraits, patterned colour fields, benday dots and personal thoughts this is a dynamic piece of art.

His early gallery paintings demonstrated raw talent and had a sense of urgency about them. both angry and intimate, as if he has purged his mind in the process of applying paint to canvas. often heavily layered and incorporating words or phrases, they are both honest and fresh.

Cyclops's work earned him a coveted position at the Royal College of Art (other graduates include Lucian Freud and Chris Ofili), where he completed a master's degree. He now works from his studio in east London.
