About The ART and the ARTIST

In this very early 1988 'The Man Who Walks Through Walls' the art work resembles a 3 D photograph with bold colours on a sepia back ground. Recent and more contemporary editions from 2016 feature flags from various nations.

Blek le Rat uses a chromogenic C-type print made from a colour negative composed of three layers of gelatin, an emulsion and silver halide, which is a light-sensitive material to highlight detail colour in the art image.

Details POP out from an unassuming dull background creating a 3D illusion.

Blek le Rat or Xavier is a French graffiti artist. He was one of the first graffiti artists in Paris, and has been described as the "Father of stencil graffiti.

British graffiti artist Banksy and Blek have expressed mutual desire for collaboration and in 2011, Blek was seen adding to a mural begun the previous year by Banksy in the Mission District, San Francisco.

Blek's work is hugely influential to the present generation of street artists, as alluded to by Banksy, stating: "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier".

In 2003, Blek le Rat had his first solo U.K. exhibition in London at the Leonard Street Gallery, the Cans Festival in 2008. His American gallery debut took place at Subliminal Projects Gallery in Los Angeles in 2008. Blek also had an exhibition in 2009 at the Metro Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.

In 2014, Blek le Rat exhibited at the Prestigious Quin hotel in New York City—as part of the hotel's Quin Arts program where he had a tenure as artist in residence.

Other graffiti artists who held residence at the Quin include Bristol’s Graffiti artist Nick Walker.
