Antique Longcase Clock 18th c. John Coates Antique English longcase clock. Tall and fairly slender oak case. Arched brass dial, signed by the clockmaker John Coates, who was based in Cirencester, Gloucestershire in the mid 18th century. Two weights with original pendulum. An etched fish to the brass pendulum Measures 49.5 x 27.5 x 245 (height) cm The clock movement has apparently not been working, movement unchecked. The clock has been kept in one family possession for a long time. The clock has undergone some questionable restoration over the years, including a vintage brass plate being added to the upper dial with a swinging brass ornament. Finials to hood later additions. Addition of a stained vintage base to the case. Marks and wear in align with age. Nonetheless the foundations of a good quality timepiece by a well regarded maker.
