Regency Amboyna Silver Ebony & Abalone Inlaid Writing Box

Regency Amboyna Silver Ebony & Amboyna Inlaid Writing Box Measures 33 x 22 x 13 (height) cm Offered for sale an early nineteenth century writing box. Rich amboyna with a tight swirling grain similar to burr walnut. Central inlaid writing motif to the top comprised of ebony & silver inlay with painted adornments. To the top is a decorative inner border and border to the rim, with ebony, silver, abalone & painted inlay. The front of the box with key hole and silver inlaid diamond form escutcheon. The top opens to reveal the writing slope with purple baize writing surface and beautiful compartments for inkwells and pens. Offered in good condition. Sounds structure and a lovely rich patina to the wood. The central motif to the top appears to have had a little amount of small restoration to the paint. A few chips to the corner veneer and little age related wear to wood. The interior wood lovely and in very good condition, the writing surface old with some wear. Baize lining to underside. Purchased from an antiques dealer in Northamptonshire in the early 2000's, having previously been housed in a collection in Yorkshire.
