Guivier, London, a well-known maker and supplier of string instruments and accessories since the 19th century. We believe it may be a practice mute or string dampener for a cello or double bass, though we are not experts and cannot say for certain. It features a wooden centrepiece with a series of small, graduated holes, and two long metal arms that end in circular loops. The wooden section is clearly stamped: "THE VEEJAY © / J.P.
