Signed lower left: "A. Hanzen". Details: Artist: Alexei Hanzen (signed lower left) Medium: Watercolour in sepia tones Date: Early 20th century Dimensions (including frame): 61.5 x 55.5 cm Framing: Original wide ivory-inlaid frame Set behind glass Some small areas of wear and repair to the inlay Condition: Painting in good condition Some signs of age but well preserved Frame is sound with minor wear About the Artist: Alexei Hanzen was a Russian artist best known for his landscapes and maritime scenes. Born in Odessa in 1876, he was the grandson of Ivan Aivazovsky and trained in Berlin, Dresden, Munich, and Paris. His works were exhibited internationally, and he was appointed an official artist of the Russian Naval Ministry. Hanzen later settled in Croatia, where he continued painting until his death in 1937. His works are held in museums and royal collections across Europe.
