Description

Louis XVI Marble-Topped Commode French, c. 1770-1780 This elegant Louis XVI commode is a refined piece of French craftsmanship from the late 18th century. It features a solid oak carcass with veneered surfaces and intricate inlays, typical of the period. The commode is topped with a grey and white marble, likely Saint-Claude or Carrara marble, with subtle veining and a naturally rough back edge, typical of its time. The body of the commode is decorated with feathered satinwood veneer and mahogany crossbanding, enhanced by decorative stringing. It stands on tapered, inlaid feet, offering an elegant, classical profile. The original gilt metal handles and escutcheon plates remain intact, adding to its refined look. This piece offers generous storage with five drawers: three small top drawers and two full-length drawers below. Though in overall good condition, there are some signs of age, including minor damage to the lower middle escutcheon and some nibbles to the marble, consistent with its age. The key functions to open the middle drawer but does not lock the drawers. Dimensions: Height: 90.5 cm Width: 133 cm Depth: 62 cm
