Description
A weighty and decorative pair of 19th century fire chenets or andirons, c. 1860
An impressive pair of antique chenets in gilt bronze, finely cast with pierced lattice backs and boldly scrolled foliate supports.
Each features a classical mask head in low relief, echoing the neoclassical or Empire style.
The tops are finished with urn-shaped finials and hinged rings, and the original iron billet bars remain in place.
One chenet has been partially polished, the other retains a more subdued, timeworn patina.
Together they make a striking and characterful pair.
Dimensions: 44cm high x 32cm wide x 14cm deep
Condition: Offered in good, sound condition with expected surface wear and oxidation.
Provenance: Removed from a Worcestershire manor house
A fine and substantial pair, well suited to a period fireplace or as decorative architectural elements.
