Description
A finely made inkwell dating from the late 19th century, in warm Siena marble with gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts.
The neoclassical lid is finely cast and topped with a foliate finial, lifting to reveal a clean white ceramic liner.
Likely of Russian or French origin.
Elegant in design and functional in form, it would suit a traditional desk or study.
Condition: Minor edge wear to the marble, light tarnishing and oxidation inside the lid.
The hinge is slightly loose, and the lid does not close tightly.
The ceramic liner is in good order.
Dimensions: 11.5 cm wide x 8.5 cm deep x 7 cm high
Date: Circa 1880–1900
