Description:
A historic 1887 bronze commemorative medal, issued to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and the 50th anniversary of the railway through Crewe.
This medal was presented to the town of Crewe by the London & North Western Railway (LNWR) to celebrate the 3000th locomotive built at Crewe Works.
Features:
Obverse: Profile of Queen Victoria wearing a crown and veil, with the inscription: “IN COMMEMORATION OF THE JUBILEE REIGN OF H.G.M. QUEEN VICTORIA 1837-1887.”
Reverse: Detailed locomotive engraving, with the inscription: “QUEENS PARK CREWE PRESENTED TO THE TOWN BY THE L & N.W. RAILWAY COMPANY DEDICATION. 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF RAILWAY THROUGH CREWE 1887. 3000TH ENGINE BUILT AT CREWE WORKS. RICHARD MOON CHAIRMAN.”

Diameter: 39mm
Original Ribbon: Worn but still attached, in faded blue and beige colours.
Condition: The medal has a rich patina consistent with age.
Some wear and tarnishing present, as expected for a piece over 135 years old.
Ribbon shows signs of age and fraying but remains attached.
