Description
Description:
This exquisite antique Anglo-Indian silver belt buckle dates from the late 19th to early 20th century, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and intricate openwork detailing.
The symmetrical design features two mounted warriors or hunters, clad in ornate armour, wielding weapons, and riding galloping horses.
The filigree background is adorned with lush foliage, palm trees, birds, and floral motifs, reflecting traditional Indian and Middle Eastern influences.
The buckle is composed of two interlocking panels, secured with a central clasp, and would have originally been attached to a fabric or leather belt, commonly worn by nurses, governesses, or ladies of the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The engraved inscription on the reverse ("Angela Darkin") suggests this was a personalised piece, possibly a gift or heirloom.
Features:
Material: Silver (unhallmarked, possible silver-plated composition)
Design: Mounted warriors/hunters with floral and foliate filigree background
Period: c. 1890-1920
Origin: Likely India, Burma (Myanmar), or Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

This piece is a fine example of Raj-era silver craftsmanship, blending British Victorian fashion with Eastern decorative traditions.
An ideal acquisition for collectors of antique silver, Anglo-Indian artefacts, or historical fashion accessories.
