Description

Pair of 19th Century Gilt Bronze Neoclassical Fire Chenets with Mask Detail, c.1860 A fine and weighty pair of 19th century French or English gilt bronze fire chenets or andirons, cast in the neoclassical taste. Each features pierced lattice backs, bold scrollwork supports, and finely modelled classical mask heads to the base. The upper sections are ornamented with stylised foliate motifs and urn finials with ring handles. The pair retains the original iron billet bars to the reverse. One chenet has been partially polished, while the other retains a naturally aged patina, providing an appealing visual contrast. Solidly cast and decorative, they make a striking addition to a period fireplace or as architectural statement pieces. Period: Circa 1860 Materials: Gilt bronze, iron Dimensions: H 44 cm x W 32 cm x D 14 cm Condition: Good, with surface wear, oxidation, and minor inconsistencies in patina consistent with age
