Description

Vintage Continental Porcelain Sea Nymph Centrepiece Origin: Continental (probably Austrian), early 20th century Dimensions: 32 cm (length) x 13 cm (width) x 24 cm (height) A finely crafted vintage porcelain centrepiece, depicting a sea nymph standing amidst flowing sea creature motifs, likely inspired by the Art Nouveau style. The figure is painted in soft greens with gilded accents, adding a subtle richness to the piece. The central figure, wearing flowing garments, is set in a dynamic pose, surrounded by aquatic creatures and naturalistic wave forms. The interior of the bowl-like vessel features a pearlescent glaze, adding to its luminous and delicate aesthetic. This piece was originally intended as a decorative table centrepiece or fruit/bonbon bowl, though its elegance makes it equally suited for display in any room. Condition: The figure has been subject to repair/restoration, with the hands and arm of the nymph having been restored. Some light wear to the gilded finish, consistent with age, and small areas of fading to the painted decoration. A charming piece that showcases the craftsmanship of early 20th-century porcelain makers in the Austrian tradition, and possibly in the style of Royal Dux.
