Description

Set of 4 Royal Worcester Hand-Painted Fruit Plates – Signed by Albert Shuck, c1924–1926 Royal Worcester, England | Diameter: 23 cm (9 inches) A decorative set of four cabinet plates by Royal Worcester, each hand-painted with richly coloured fruit studies by noted factory artist Albert Shuck (1880–1961). The subjects include peaches, plums, cherries, apples, and gooseberries, beautifully rendered against soft floral backdrops. Each plate is framed by a deep cobalt blue border with elaborate raised and tooled gilding in an ornate rococo revival style. All four plates are signed by the artist, a respected fruit painter at Royal Worcester whose work is well-regarded by collectors for its detail and vibrancy. Condition: All four plates have historic damage and restoration. Three have visible staple repairs (a traditional method of ceramic restoration), while one has been glued without staples. Cracks and fine crazing are visible on each, with general surface wear to the decoration and gilding. Offered in stable condition for display or reference. Backstamps: All bear the puce printed Royal Worcester mark with date codes for 1924 (1 plate) and 1926 (3 plates), along with various impressed and painted numbers.
