1869 Queen Victoria Gold Sovereign – Young Head Shield Back A desirable British gold sovereign, minted in 1869 during the reign of Queen Victoria. The obverse bears the distinguished 'Young Head' portrait of Queen Victoria, designed by William Wyon, with the inscription VICTORIA DEI GRATIA. The reverse features the crowned shield of the Royal Arms within a laurel wreath, designed by Jean Baptiste Merlen, with the surrounding legend BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:. Year: 1869 Weight: 7.9 grams Diameter: 22 mm Fineness: 22 carat gold (91.67% purity) Gold content: 0.2354 troy ounces Condition: Circulated, with visible wear and minor marks (please see photographs for detail).
