Original WWII British Defence Medal (1939-1945) – King George VI A fine original example of the WWII Defence Medal, issued to military personnel and civilians in recognition of their service during the Second World War. Description: Obverse: Features the left-facing portrait of King George VI, inscribed GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP. Reverse: Displays the Royal Crown atop an oak tree, flanked by a lion and a unicorn, with the inscription THE DEFENCE MEDAL 1939-1945. Material: Cupro-nickel. Diameter: Approx. 36mm. Ribbon: The original ribbon remains attached, featuring green, orange, and black stripes, symbolising Britain’s wartime resilience. Condition: Good overall condition, with minor age-related wear. Original ribbon intact, showing some fraying. Suspension bar present and functional. History & Eligibility: Awarded to: Military personnel who served in non-operational areas, including the Home Guard and coastal defence. Civil Defence workers, including Air Raid Precautions (ARP) wardens, firefighters, police, and rescue services. Those who served in occupied territories for a qualifying period.
