Description

Late 19th Century Banded Agate and Silver-Plated Wax Seal with Gothic Monogram Origin: Likely English or Continental Europe Date: Circa 1880–1900 Material: Banded agate with silver-plated metal mount Dimensions: Height 8 cm × Width 2 cm Condition: Good antique condition. Minor surface nibbles to the agate handle, and some tarnish and wear to the mount, commensurate with age. The monogram remains clearly defined. A finely crafted antique wax seal dating from the late 19th century. The handle is carved from richly coloured banded agate, faceted and shaped in an elegant baluster form with subtle ornamental turning. The mount is silver-plated and decorated with cast foliate motifs typical of the Victorian era. The matrix bears an engraved Gothic-style monogram, likely custom-cut for personal correspondence. A well-proportioned and decorative piece, offering both functionality and collector’s appeal.
