Two Volumes of The Works of John Moore, M.D. – 1820 Edinburgh – Leather-Bound Antiquarian Set A charming pair of antiquarian volumes from The Works of John Moore, M.D., edited with memoirs by Robert Anderson, M.D., and printed in Edinburgh in 1820. These are Volumes I and II of the original seven-volume edition. Volume I contains a biographical memoir of Moore’s life and writings. Volume II begins his celebrated View of Society and Manners in Italy, with engaging commentary on social customs and historical anecdotes. The books are bound in contemporary full calf, with gilt tooling to spine and boards, marbled endpapers, and institutional bookplates for the Library of the Institute of Accountants and Actuaries in Glasgow. Both spines are titled MOORE'S WORKS and numbered. Condition: Surface wear and flaking to spines and extremities, some cracking to hinges, rubbing and loss to spine leather as visible. Internally sound and legible, with scattered foxing and age-related toning to pages. A solid and decorative pair, ideal for display or historical reference.
