Description

Georgian Mahogany Secretaire Chest with Satinwood Inlay, c.1800 A fine quality Georgian secretaire chest, dating to around 1800, in two parts. The cabinet is made from well-figured mahogany with satinwood and ebony stringing. The upper section features a central cupboard flanked by oval satinwood inlaid panels. Below, the fall-front opens to reveal a green leather writing surface and a well-fitted satinwood interior with drawers, pigeonholes, a locking cupboard, two concealed drawers, and a removable document caddy. The lower section comprises three long drawers with original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. Oak-lined throughout, with hand-cut dovetails. Stands on square legs. The top section locates into the base with large dowels. In good antique condition with a warm colour and some minor wear and surface marks consistent with age. Evidence of an earlier gallery rail to the top. Supplied with two working keys. Dimensions: Height: 178 cm Width: 98 cm Depth: 48 cm
