Victorian Flow Blue Relief-Moulded Jug with Pewter Lid English, circa 1845–1860 A mid-19th century English jug in the flow blue tradition, with moulded decoration and original pewter-mounted hinged lid. The body is richly decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, with scrolling foliate and floral patterns, further heightened with gilt embellishment. Relief-moulded grapevine detail appears around the handle and shoulder, typical of mid-Victorian decorative stonewares. The glaze has been deliberately allowed to blur the cobalt, creating the characteristic 'flow blue' effect. The body is white earthenware (not porcelain), with a turned foot and flat base rim typical of Staffordshire or Yorkshire production of the 1840s–1860s. The original pewter lid is present and hinged, as often found on these functional tablewares—intended for cream or milk. The style relates closely to wares by firms such as Samuel Alcock or J. & G. Meakin, although this example is unmarked. Condition: Some age-related crazing to the glaze. Small chip to footrim (visible in photos). Minor wear to gilt decoration.
