Description

An extinct monster of the Cretaceous waters of the Tethys Sea.
A thick transverse section of the left valve of Vaccinites cornuvaccinum (Bronn 1831), a peculiar bivalve from the Upper Cretaceous (100-66 million years old) deposits of the Mount Parnassus, Greece, that became extinct approximately 65 million years ago. 
The animal could reach a meter in length and with its thick shell was one of the major reef-building protagonists. 
Dimensions: 11 x 10 x 3cm, weight: 637g.
