18th Century Hand-Coloured Engraving by William Woollett – View of Painshill Park A fine 18th century hand-coloured engraving by William Woollett (1735–1785), one of the most highly regarded English engravers of the Georgian period. Titled "A View from the West Side of the Island in the Garden of the Honble. Charles Hamilton Esq. at Painshill near Cobham in Surry", the print depicts an elegant view of Painshill Park in Surrey – one of the great landscape gardens of the 18th century, designed by Charles Hamilton in the naturalistic style. The scene shows finely dressed figures strolling and boating on the ornamental lake, with a delicate white bridge in the foreground and swans on the water, all set within a wooded and carefully composed landscape. Hand-coloured engraving on paper. Set behind glass in a contemporary gilt frame. English, late 18th century Frame dimensions: 74 x 57 cm (29 x 22½ in) Condition: Engraving in good condition. Minor toning to the mount. Gilt frame with some wear and small marks as expected with age. Ready to hang.
