Victorian Bride – Oil on Canvas by Beatrice Offor (British, 1864–1920) A signed and dated oil painting by the well-regarded British artist Beatrice Offor (1864–1920), known for her evocative portraits of women. This example, dated 1887 and signed B.O. 87 to the lower right, depicts a young bride standing in a wooded landscape, holding a parasol and posy of pink roses. Her white lace dress, gold necklace and parasol are rendered with delicate attention to period detail. Oil on canvas. Canvas stamp: Winsor & Newton, Rathbone Place, London Old Exeter framers' label to stretcher: Worth & Co., Cathedral Yard, Exeter Canvas size: 40 x 61 cm / 16 x 24 in Frame size: 60 x 81 cm / 23 1/2 x 31 3/4 in Set in a period gilt frame with inner gilt slip. Condition report: Significant tear to the right-hand side of the canvas, with loss to the paint layer as shown. An old patch repair is visible to the reverse. The surface exhibits wear and craquelure. Frame has wear and losses consistent with age. Offered as a restoration project. A decorative and historically interesting work with early date and signature from a sought-after female artist of the period.
