Description

Sepia Landscape Watercolour by Henry Fielding (1781–1851), English School c.1825 A finely executed early 19th century English watercolour by Henry Fielding (1781–1851), a noted landscape artist and member of the Society of Painters in Water-Colours. This atmospheric work, dating to circa 1825, captures a gently undulating rural scene rendered in warm sepia tones. A winding country path leads through trees toward distant architecture nestled within rolling hills, with two small figures adding a human element to the tranquil setting. Typical of Fielding’s mature style, the composition demonstrates a refined sense of space and subtle gradation of tone. The view evokes the quiet romance of the English countryside during the early Victorian period. The watercolour is presented in a later gilt frame with a double mount and glazed. The frame measures approximately 72 x 58.5 cm (28¼ x 23 inches). The work remains in good condition for its age; the colours are stable, and while there are some minor marks to the frame, the artwork itself is well preserved and ready to hang. A fine and decorative work by a respected hand, offering a glimpse of early 19th century pastoral England.
