Description

A rare and decorative Victorian porcelain charger, attributed to Minton, England, circa 1875–1890. The central field is exquisitely hand-painted with butterflies, a dragonfly, and floral sprays in vibrant enamel, all set against a softly lustrous platinum leaf ground. Surrounding the scene is a rich cobalt blue border, finely edged with gilt. The piece is mounted with an applied bronze rim, cast in a stylised bamboo design — a highly unusual and refined feature associated with Minton’s Anglo-Japanese design influence during the late 19th century. The reverse bears impressed numerals typical of Minton’s pattern registration system. This charger exemplifies the synthesis of naturalistic Victorian decoration and Japonisme, representing the pinnacle of English porcelain craftsmanship in the period. Dimensions: Diameter: 25 cm (9.8 in) Height: 4 cm (1.6 in) Condition: Very good antique condition. Minor surface wear to the platinum ground consistent with age. No cracks, chips or restoration. The bronze mount is original, secure, and displays a pleasing aged patina.
