John Rogers (American, 1829–1904) "A Frolic at the Old Homestead" – Large Painted Plaster Group A large painted plaster figural sculpture after the original 1881 model by the American sculptor John Rogers (1829–1904), titled "A Frolic at the Old Homestead", and bearing the impressed mark: JOHN ROGERS / NEW YORK / 1881 The group shows four figures in an animated domestic scene, cast in painted plaster and retaining much of its original finish. The casting is consistent with those produced during or shortly after Rogers’ working lifetime. The precise date of this example is uncertain, but it is not a recent reproduction and shows clear signs of age. In overall good condition with minor surface wear, notably to the head of the tallest figure and to the blindfold. The underside has been lined with later baize for protection.
