Description

Antique Mother-of-Pearl Handled Cutlery Set by Whytock & Sons, Dundee A fine late Victorian or Edwardian boxed cutlery set by Whytock & Sons, Jewellers & Silversmiths, Dundee, circa 1890–1910. The fitted oak case retains the complete lower tray of six knives and six forks, each with beautiful mother-of-pearl handles, ornate silver-plated ferrules, and engraved blades and tines. The upper section of the case is vacant, the original fittings now missing. The interior is lined with rich purple velvet and satin, with the retailer’s label inset to the lower edge. The set displays the fine quality typical of Whytock & Sons, with well-crafted handles of bright, lustrous mother-of-pearl and decorative metalwork throughout. Condition: Cutlery in good condition with some tarnish and light spotting to the blades as shown. Mother-of-pearl handles well preserved with attractive natural sheen. The case is in good order, showing light surface wear; upper fittings missing as noted.
