Description

Early Herbert Terry & Sons Anglepoise Model 1227 Desk Lamp, England, 1930s A rare and authentic early edition of the iconic Anglepoise Model 1227 desk lamp, designed by George Carwardine and produced by Herbert Terry & Sons, Redditch, England, in the 1930s. This original version features the distinctive marbled cream and butterscotch painted finish typical of pre-war production. It retains the classic three-spring mechanism, providing excellent balance and adjustability, and is stamped to the base with the maker’s mark. The lamp also retains its original fittings, shade, and early Bakelite bulb holder, with an aged period fabric-wrapped cord. This piece is not only a highly functional design object but also a significant example of British industrial design history. Increasingly scarce in this untouched condition, particularly with its original paintwork and early form. Origin: England Date: Circa 1935 Designer: George Carwardine Manufacturer: Herbert Terry & Sons Ltd, Redditch Model: 1227 Height (fully extended): 92 cm (36.25 in) Base: 15 x 15 cm (5.9 x 5.9 in) Condition: Good, original condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Paint with patina and signs of handling. Working, though rewiring is advised prior to installation.
