Lodge’s Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain – 6 Volumes (1835) A part set of Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain by Edmund Lodge, Esq. F.S.A., printed for Harding and Lepard, London, 1835. Comprising Volumes I–XII bound as six books (two volumes per binding). Illustrated with engraved portraits throughout, each with accompanying biographical and historical memoirs. Bound in contemporary half leather with gilt-lettered spines, marbled endpapers, and all edges gilt. Dimensions: approx. 19 × 27 cm. Condition: The bindings show heavy wear, with flaking and peeling to the spines, rubbing to corners, and some loss (particularly Vols. VII–VIII). Boards faded and marked. Internally with age spotting and foxing, occasional damp stains, and some plates with offsetting. A musky, slightly damp odour present. Endpapers with old bookplates and inscriptions. Still a complete run of twelve volumes in six, retaining the full complement of engraved portraits. A sound but timeworn working set.
