Description
1928 Joseph Fry & Sons Ltd Bicentenary Medallion
A commemorative medallion issued in 1928 to mark the bicentenary of the birth of Joseph Fry (1728–1787), founder of the pioneering British chocolate firm J. S. Fry & Sons Ltd. The obverse features a profile portrait of Fry in Quaker attire with the inscription JOSEPH FRY 1728 – 1787, while the reverse depicts a finely detailed weeping willow tree encircled by the legend J S FRY & SONS LTD BICENTENARY 1928.
The medallion measures 5 cm in diameter and is struck in a white metal alloy. There is some wear and light surface marking consistent with age and handling, but the detail remains legible and well defined.
An interesting piece of early 20th-century commemorative material relating to one of Britain’s most important industrial families.
Dimensions: 5 cm diameter
Condition: Good, with honest age-related wear
