Description

George III Mahogany “Dumfries House” Chest of Drawers, c.1770 A fine George III period mahogany chest of drawers of the type associated with Dumfries House, dating to circa 1770. Of good proportions, the chest is arranged as three short drawers over three long graduated drawers, fitted with brass swan-neck handles and raised on bold ogee bracket feet. The mahogany has a rich, warm colour and a well-developed patina. The drawers run smoothly and the piece retains a pair of keys. In good, serviceable condition. Some surface marks and wear to the top, a little movement to the sides, and some age-related losses to the rear panel — all consistent with age and use, and adding to the authentic character of this handsome 18th-century piece. A practical and decorative example of Georgian furniture. Dimensions: Height: 107 cm Width: 99 cm Depth: 57 cm
