Description

Louis XVI Marble Topped Parquetry Commode France, late 18th century A late 18th century Louis XVI commode of breakfront form. Constructed with an oak carcass, veneered throughout with feathered satinwood parquetry and mahogany crossbanding, reflecting the restrained geometric taste of the Louis XVI period. The piece retains its shaped grey and white marble top, thick and of good weight, with a rough back edge as manufactured and minor nibbles consistent with age. The body fitted with five drawers, arranged as three smaller drawers above two full-width drawers, all with gilt metal handles and escutcheon plates. Raised on tapered inlaid legs. A decorative and well-proportioned example with a particularly rich, warm colour to the veneers. Condition Offered in very good condition with natural signs of age and use. Minor wear to the marble edges and a small area of loss to the lower central escutcheon. Structurally sound and ready for use. Measurements Height: 90.5 cm Width: 133 cm Depth: 62 cm
