These are not illustrations from the original 1845 book as the plates offered for sale are bigger and the text is on the back, all other reproductions of the 1845 edition that can be found are all smaller in size than the those for sale and this is the reason they are being sold as reproduction hand coloured lithographs.


McIan's and Logan's 'Clans of the Scottish Highlands' was the first comprehensive illustrated work on the Scottish clans, presenting a descriptive history of each clan and a picture of its tartans, which were praised for their accuracy. It was thus established as an important source for subsequent research into the Scottish clans. The work was dedicated to Queen Victoria, who was the first English monarch to take a serious interest in Scotland.

Condition: Excellent quality - minor foxing but otherwise clean and bright.
