Description
(Item will be posted from Ireland - EU)
W. Avery & Son were originally needle manufacturers in England during the Victorian era. The company became famous for its figural gold-plated brass needle cases, the earliest of which were made between 1871-1873. The storage items were, inter alia, manufactured in the form of bees or butterflies.
This item is the iconic 'Walnut on Leaf' needle case that was registered in 1873. The specimen is the classic brass walnut on a leaf and opens with a simple clip on the front.
Condition: Very good - no damage - hinge firm - clasp closes as it should - on the base is the standard sign for "W. Avery & Son, Redditch" with registration mark - there is slight movement of the walnut shape on the base but it is not damaged or loose - see all images.
