Description

19th Century Carved Wooden Panel – Grapevine Motif A rectangular hand-carved panel depicting a grapevine with clusters of grapes, curling tendrils and vine leaves in deep relief. The carving is executed with a good degree of detail and depth, likely intended originally as a decorative element from a larger piece of furniture or architectural fitting. The wood appears to be oak, rather than walnut — the grain, tone, and density visible from the rear suggest a close-grained European oak, typical of Continental work of the period. Continental in origin, this type of carving is often associated with the Black Forest style, although similar work was also produced elsewhere in Europe during the late 19th century. A later hanging ring has been fitted to the reverse, allowing the panel to be used decoratively as a wall plaque. Dimensions: Height: 38 cm Width: 8 cm Depth: 1.5 cm Date: Late 19th century Material: Carved oak Condition: Minor wear and small losses consistent with age and use. Later hanging loop to the reverse. Solid and presentable overall.
