Description
An unusual late 19th-century Cadogan teapot by Minton, dating to around 1880.
Moulded in a rounded form with applied foliate and floral decoration, the piece is finished in a rich treacle-brown glaze typical of the period.
In the Cadogan style, the teapot is filled from underneath rather than through the spout, a novelty design that gained popularity in the Victorian era.
Measurements:
Height: 21 cm
Width: 24 cm
Depth: 13 cm
Condition: In distressed antique condition.
The spout has a chip to the tip.
The handle has been broken and repaired in four places, with visible glue residue and cracking.
Small losses and wear to the glaze in areas, consistent with age and handling.
A decorative example of Victorian treacle-glazed pottery from the Minton factory, displaying characteristic design and technique despite the damage.
