Description

Pair of French Ceramic Moonflask Vases, c.1900 A fine and decorative pair of early 20th-century French ceramic moonflask vases, dating to around 1900–1920. Of flattened circular form with narrow tapering necks, the vases are hand-painted in an eye-catching palette of turquoise, cobalt blue, yellow, red, green and black. The front of each vase features a central urn overflowing with stylised flowers, surrounded by foliate garlands and dotted ornament. The reverse is decorated with large floral medallions and further sprigs. The thick black outlines separating the colours create a cloisonné-like effect, reminiscent of the popular Longwy decorative style of the period. Both vases are unmarked to the underside. In good condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. Fine craquelure is visible across the surface, entirely consistent with age and technique. Measurements (each): 27.5 cm high x 22 cm wide x 11 cm deep A striking decorative pair from the early 20th century, well suited to both traditional and eclectic interiors.
