Description

Mid-20th Century Spanish Talavera Pottery Jug A fine hand-painted Spanish Talavera ceramic jug, crafted in a classic tapered cylindrical form with a moulded handle and gently shaped pouring spout. The jug is richly decorated with a charming pastoral scene featuring a prancing deer amid lush foliage, flowering plants, and rolling hills beneath a soft, cloudy sky. The colour palette is vibrant and typically Talavera, with bright cobalt blue, fresh greens, warm yellows, and rich ochres, all outlined with confident brushstrokes. The rim and handle are picked out in deep blue, and the base is encircled with fine hand-painted stripes in blue, yellow, and orange. The jug is signed to the underside "Talavera Mave", indicating its origin in the renowned ceramic-making region of Talavera de la Reina, Spain. Measurements: 17 cm width x 11.5 cm depth x 25 cm height Condition: Offered in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Date: Mid to late 20th century, c. 1960–1990.
