Description

A Fine Victorian Hand-Painted and Gilded Porcelain Moon Flask Vase, c.1890 A superb quality late 19th-century porcelain moon flask vase, likely from the Minton factory or a similar high-end English maker. This beautifully formed piece is decorated in the classical revival style and raised on four gilt shell-moulded feet. To the front, it features a finely hand-painted portrait of a Victorian lady wearing a broad feathered hat, pearl necklace, and gold locket chain over a fur-trimmed purple gown. The portrait is signed Boiston to the lower right—an accomplished decorator of the period. The reverse is richly decorated with raised gilt foliate ornament in the Aesthetic style. Twin angular handles, a gilt collar, and decorative gilded feet complete the elegant form. Unmarked to the base, as often seen on artist-decorated examples retailed independently of the main factory. Condition: Good decorative condition. The hand-painted portrait remains vibrant and the gilding is bright. There are some old, stained cracks to the rim, which are visible but appear stable and do not extend below the neck (see photos). No restoration detected. Dimensions: Height: 23.5 cm Width: 19 cm Depth: 7 cm
