Description

Regency Cut-Glass and Sterling Silver-Mounted Jar & Cover by Matthew Boulton, 1800 An elegant Regency-period cut-glass jar with its original matching cover, exquisitely mounted in sterling silver. Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1800, this refined piece was crafted by the distinguished Georgian silversmith Matthew Boulton. Design and Craftsmanship: Beautifully fashioned from clear, lead crystal glass, this jar exhibits finely detailed geometric patterns and elegant spiral cutting, characteristic of early 19th-century craftsmanship. The jar features a graceful pedestal foot with scalloped edges, supporting a vessel with exceptional clarity and brilliance. The original lid is elegantly stepped and finished with a finely faceted knob handle. Silver Mount and Hallmarks: The jar is fitted with a sterling silver collar bearing crisp and authentic hallmarks clearly identifying the maker ("MB" for Matthew Boulton), assay office (Birmingham), and the date (1800). Dimensions: Height: 16 cm Width: 8 cm Depth: 7 cm Condition: Presented in good antique condition. Some minor wear consistent with age, including gentle surface wear to the silver mount and a few small nibbles to the edges of the crystal, which do not detract from its aesthetic or historical value. A superb example of Regency elegance, this fine jar would appeal to collectors of Georgian antiques and admirers of historical silver and cut-glass pieces.
