Description

18th Century Delft Blue and White Floral Plate, c.1770 A fine antique Dutch Delftware plate, hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a central bouquet of stylised flowers including a bold chrysanthemum-like bloom, surrounded by trailing foliage and smaller blossoms. The wide rim is decorated with repeating floral sprays, typical of Delft floral decoration of the late 18th century. The reverse shows a simple painter’s numeral “2” in blue, a common workshop mark of the period. The plate has the characteristic opaque tin glaze with areas of surface fritting, giving it the soft finish associated with genuine 18th-century Delft production. Diameter: 23 cm (9 inches). Condition: Fritting and small rim chips as expected with Delft of this age, but no major cracks or restoration noted. Displays well.
