17th Century English Carved Oak Coffer A good 17th century carved oak coffer of traditional form. The front with three fielded panels, the central panel carved with a lozenge enclosing a stylised rosette, flanked by floral quatrefoil motifs with foliate detail. The upper frieze carved with a series of lunettes below a twin-panel top. Pegged construction throughout, with original panelled back and lidded candle box to the interior. The lid opens on later iron strap hinges. The lock is a later replacement. Worn and timeworn surface to the top as shown. Some minor wear and losses to mouldings consistent with age. A genuine and well-proportioned early oak chest with a pleasing patina. English, 17th century (circa 1650), with later alterations. Dimensions: Width: 113 cm Depth: 52.5 cm Height: 60 cm
