Description
Fine 14ct Gold Pocket Watch by August Ericsson, St Petersburg c.1890
A fine quality and scarce Imperial Russian pocket watch by the eminent St Petersburg retailer and horologist August Ericsson (1842–1910), official supplier to the Imperial Russian Navy.
Engine-turned savonnette (hunter-case) pocket watch in solid 14ct yellow gold, with Swiss squirrel hallmark (for 14ct gold), maker’s mark MK56 and serial number 5824 to the inner case. Inner dust cover engraved Aug. Ericsson No. 31695, matching the movement.
White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, finely pierced gold hands and subsidiary seconds. Signed AUG. ERICSSON to the dial.
High-quality jewelled Swiss movement, as typically supplied to Ericsson for casing and retail in St Petersburg. Movement clean and in running order at time of listing.
Dimensions: 30 mm diameter, 42 mm to bow, 7 mm thick.
Weight: 27.2 grams.
Condition: Case in good antique condition with some light surface wear and small knocks consistent with age. Light scratches to glass. The inner dust cover is present but no longer hinged — it remains in place but does not open on the hinge. Movement in good running order.
A fine and highly desirable Imperial-era gold pocket watch by a distinguished St Petersburg maker and supplier to the Imperial Navy.
