Description

Napoleon III Ebonised Pier Cabinet with Electrotype Panel – French, c.1860 A decorative mid-19th century French pier cabinet in the Napoleon III style, dating to circa 1860. Ebonised wood throughout with brass stringing and gilt metal mounts, and a particularly attractive electrotyped panel depicting hanging game birds and foliage. The panel is beautifully cast and adds great decorative interest to the front of the cabinet. The piece is fitted with three interior shelves (two later replacements), making it a practical and elegant storage piece for a variety of settings. Retains its working lock and key, the latter fitted with a 19th-century silver-mounted conch shell fob. Condition: Structurally sound and stable. Wear to the lacquered surface, particularly around the edges, plinth and top. Some rubbing to the gilt mounts and lifting to brass. The interior shows signs of age and use, with two later shelf replacements. Surface wear to the base and door edges from regular use.
