Description
A decorative late 19th century porcelain oil lamp dating to around 1890.
The base is finely modelled with three winged cherubs standing on a naturalistic mound and supporting a basket-form reservoir.
The reservoir is moulded in basket weave and applied with climbing roses and foliage in coloured enamels, typical of Dresden Rococo-revival porcelain of the period.
The lamp retains its brass Cosmos burner together with tall clear glass chimney and a white opaline dome shade of mushroom form, giving the piece both presence and proportion.
The underside carries a blue painted factory stamp in the manner of Meissen, consistent with Dresden-area porcelain houses working in this style during the late 19th century.
Dimensions: Height: 44 cm (including chimney and shade) Width: 21 cm
Condition: Good overall condition, commensurate with age.
No structural cracks or repairs observed.
Expected small nibbles to some of the applied flowers, which is typical and does not detract.
Burner and glass elements present and well fitted.
