Description

Mid-19th Century French Porcelain Mantel Clock – Rococo Revival, Hand-Painted Floral Decoration A decorative French porcelain mantel clock in the Rococo Revival taste, dating to the mid-19th century. The arched case is finely painted with floral reserves on a cobalt blue and white ground, enriched with gilt scrollwork. It is raised on a shaped base with bold moulded acanthus and shell ornament, all highlighted with gilding. The sides and back are similarly decorated with further painted panels in the manner of Sèvres. The silvered dial, embossed with foliate motifs, has two winding holes and is set within a cast brass bezel. The clock houses a traditional French movement with silk suspension, striking on a bell. The rear hinged cover opens to reveal the mechanism. The movement runs and strikes when handled, though it has not been serviced or guaranteed. Dimensions: Height: 47 cm Width: 27 cm Depth: 13 cm Condition: In good decorative order. The porcelain case is sound with no cracks or chips; minor rubbing to the gilding in places. Movement runs in the showroom, though no guarantee is offered.
