If you’ve checked out our website you’ve probably noticed our live chat is available on the bottom left of the screen. We are here to help you navigate your way around our auctions if you’re new or answer any questions you might have even if you’re a pro!

Whether you want to know more about a specific lot, or you’re not too sure where to start, then having a quick chat with one of our team will point you in the right direction.

So, what do we get asked about regularly? The chances are these recurring queries might just help you:

Where do I start?

A lot of people want to get stuck in but aren’t too sure how to go about it. Check out our FAQs and blogs for loads of simple and useful info and tips on how to start your bidding or selling journey with William George.

Whether you want to know what kind of stock to buy to resell, or what the difference is between a raw return and a graded return, you’ll find heaps of advice to get you up and running. If you want to double check anything or just speak to a real person then our live chat will take care of that!

What is a ‘no reserve’ auction?

We regularly run auctions with no reserve price, which is usually in the title of the auction so you can easily spot them! This means that if you place a bid then this will secure the lot, unless you’re outbid by someone else of course!

This is a great way to bag bargains, especially if you’re considering potentially selling your winnings on for a profit. With a reserve auction, even if you bid the ‘opening bid amount’ or higher, you may get a message to say you haven’t met the reserve. You can’t see what the reserve amount is, so you would need to increase your bid until you meet the reserve to secure the lot.

What is a buyer's premium/BP?

The buyer's premium is added to your bid amount, it is usually around 25% +VAT and it’s important to consider this when placing bids. For example, if you bid £20 on a lot with no VAT on the hammer then your final invoice would look something like this -

£20.00 Hammer

£5.00 BP

£1.00 VAT on BP

Can I have some extra information about this lot?

Yes! If something has caught your eye but you’re just not too sure about the condition or size etc, then feel free to get in touch with us either on our live chat or via email at contact@williamgeorge.com and we will be happy to find out the answers to any questions you may have.

Can I collect my items?

This will depend on the vendor, but each lot should give you a partial postcode to show the area and confirm whether or not the vendor offers collection, delivery or both!

The auction has finished but I forgot to bid in time, can I do anything?

We’ve all been there, we know we’ve got something coming up but by the time we’ve remembered what it is it’s finished! The best way to avoid this is to place a maximum bid on the lot/s you’re interested in and let the system take care of the rest.

Our system is a smart cookie and will increase your bid in increments if you are outbid, so you can put the most that you’re willing to bid and forget all about it!

If there was a particular lot you were interested in then you’re welcome to contact us and we can check if it sold in the auction or not, but the only way to guarantee getting your lot/s in the bag is to bid when the auction is live!

What fees do you charge for selling?

We don’t charge any commission for selling, that’s right, 0% commission! This means our sellers will always receive 100% of the hammer price and can offer their best prices to our customers. We offer two options, a collective auction where your stock is listed alongside other vendors items and a private auction where the catalogue is 100% your items. If you want to boost your audience then we also offer different marketing packages for an additional cost.

Do I need to be a business to sell with you?

No! Anyone can list with us, whether you have some antiques you’d like to sell in an auction or you’ve got a garage or storage unit full of stuff to shift, we have a solution that will work for you.

If there’s something you’d like to know about William George please feel free to give us a shout and we will be happy to help so that you can start to browse/bid/sell in no time!
